The live map and location sharing

The Home map shows every member of the current circle who is sharing location. Each marker carries the person's avatar, what they are doing (still, walking, driving), how long they have been there, their battery level, and their heading. Tapping a marker follows that person.

Pause your own sharing

  1. Open Settings from the profile button on the map.
  2. Tap Location Sharing.
  3. Turn off sharing for this circle.

This is per circle. You can keep sharing with family while pausing in another circle, and turning it off here does not hide you from your other circles. While paused, the others see your last known position, marked as paused.

Allow location in the background — iPhone

Without this you stop moving on the map the moment you leave the app.

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap Privacy & Security.
  3. Tap Location Services.
  4. Tap Zeno24.
  5. Choose Always.

Allow location in the background — Android

Android needs two things, and the second one is the one people miss.

  1. Open the Android Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps, then Zeno24.
  3. Tap Permissions, then Location, and choose Allow all the time.
  4. Go back to Zeno24's app settings and tap Battery.
  5. Choose Unrestricted.

Permission alone is not enough on Android: battery optimisation stops the app in the background and the map goes stale with every setting apparently correct. On Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo and some Samsung phones there is an extra autostart or protected-apps list to add Zeno24 to as well.

Why someone looks stuck or offline

  • Their phone is off, out of battery, or has no internet.
  • They paused sharing for this circle.
  • They granted only "While Using the App" on iPhone, or "Only while using the app" on Android.
  • Battery optimisation is stopping the app in the background (Android).
  • They are simply not moving — both platforms report fewer updates when a phone is still.

Their card on the map says which of these it is.

How far back the map remembers

Location history is kept for 30 days for every circle, whatever it pays. How much of it you can look at depends on the plan: 2 days free, 7 days on Silver, 30 days on Gold. Upgrading therefore reveals the month that was already recorded.
